Best of 2021

An Unforgettable Year

In what seems like a blink of an eye, 2021 is coming to a close. But on the flipside, thinking back to the beginning of the year feels like a lifetime ago!

Back at the beginning of the year, restrictions were still in full force, and a lot of couples were unsure of their next move when it came to their wedding. Others hedged their bets and prayed that they would be lifted to allow more guests later in the year. One thing was for sure, no one knew what the right answer would be!

I worked with my first couple in March, Gagan & Kiran. I wasn’t able to photograph their civil ceremony because of the limit to the number of people allowed in the room. But I was able to photograph some post-wedding portraits. Just being able to work with people again after a 2020 wipeout was an absolute blessing and what a way to start the year.

News was changing everyday and with every new announcement, meant a change in rules for weddings. Once restrictions were lifted, the floodgates opened for enquiries and bookings. My year was already looking busy with postponements from last year, but with couples keen to book for the summer, my diary was looking crazy. However, I was not complaining.

I was really looking forward to getting back out there and working with amazing couples again. It was also a super tricky time for them, not knowing what the future would hold for weddings. But understandably, they couldn’t wait any longer and wanted to get their show on the road.

So fast forward to today, I have been absolutely blessed to have worked with some amazing couples. It’s honestly been a privilege being there to witness and document their big day. The trust they have shown in me does have it’s pressures, but I thrive on it. This is biggest day of their lives and I put my absolute everything into making sure it is captured the way they want it.

But they have also been super understanding, knowing that this year was unlike any other before it.

So when it came to selecting the images for the ‘Best of 2021’, it took a while! Looking through nearly 32,000 delivered images and whittling them down to around 200 was no easy task. Some of the selected images may not be technically perfect, but for me, they don’t need to be. I’m not after perfection. I’m after moments. It’s about documenting moments from that split second of the day. And that is what I do best. I love creating portraits, but I also love capturing the real, raw emotions.

2021 was an absolute blast. It’s also tested me in more ways than I could imagine, but on the whole, it has been heavily outweighed by the fun that I’ve had with all the people i’ve met and worked with along the way. From the couples, their family and the awesome suppliers, through to my associate photographers, thank you.

I can’t get this far without thanking my wife, Arti and my daughter Jiya. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to carry on with my passion. The amount of times Jiya would say ‘are you doing photographs tomorrow? meaning I wouldn’t be with them would break my heart, but the off-season is time to recharge and spend with them and my loved ones.

One thing is for sure, 2022 is starting to look as exciting at this year.

I hope you enjoy my round up to what has been my best year yet. Let me know what you think in the comments and if you are a potential couple liking what you’ve seen, get in touch! Let’s create some awesome work together.

And all that leaves me to say is that I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. All the best.
