An super-fun, action-packed day in the heart of Leicester

Dharmendra & Nina’s wedding was a long time coming. They had first contacted me a couple of years previously, but unfortunately due to the pandemic, they had to push their wedding back a year. However, we did manage to squeeze in a pre-wed shoot before hand so I got to work with them, and hear all about their plans.

And let’s just say, their day was definitely worth the wait. From start to finish, they were smiling the whole day and they were loving every moment.

The first of many celebrations

It was an early start for everyone involved, including me. Nina was getting ready when I arrived at The City Rooms, with Anika Chauhan, the Make Up Artist applying the finishing touches. The mood was one of excitement and a few nerves as Nina and her bridesmaids were taking in the occasion.

Meanwhile, Dharmendra was greeting guests as they were making their way into the venue and finding their seats in the main Ballroom. It wasn’t long before the bridesmaids were walking down the aisle, followed by Nina to meet her groom at the front.

The ceremony was short and sweet, with readings and exchange of rings. They were already legally married, after having an intimate ceremony the year before due to the pandemic, so this was a little added extra for their guests who weren’t able to make the official wedding.

After the ceremony we took advantage of The City Room’s beautiful interior by taking portraits. This quickly followed with a confetti run in the rain outside before Dharmendra & Nina changed again for their Hindu Wedding.

The religious ceremony

It was already proving to be a busy day but we were still on schedule surprisingly! The Hindu Ceremony was underway with guests back in their seats and Dharmendra, making his entrance, already under the mandap. Nina was making her second walk down the aisle, this time accompanied by her brothers as she entered the Ballroom for the start of the Hindu Wedding.

I don’t think I saw a smile leave the couples faces the whole time. They had waited so long for this moment and were savouring every part of their special day. After the ceremony concluded, we decided to explore Leicester City Centre for further portraits, but this time in their Indian outfits.

There were plenty of congratulations from local well-wishers as we strolled the nearby area for some interesting backdrops and locations.

The epic party

Back at The City Rooms, it was outfit change number three for the couple, as the Ballroom was being turned around for the evenings reception. After a break to change and relax, guests enjoyed drinks and canapés before heading back up in the Ballroom to take their seats. Dharmendra & Nina soon made their way in to a huge ovation for the start of the final celebrations.

It was a lively evening, with speeches, plenty of cheers and a few tears. But overall, it was a super-fun party to document and a fitting end to such an incredible day.

By the end, I was completely shattered. It was a full-on day of high energy and high emotion but I loved every moment. Dharmendra & Nina were such a joy to work with. They just loved being in each others company, which, as an Asian Wedding Photographer in Leicester, made capturing their wedding so much fun.

So here are some highlights of their Hindu Wedding & Reception at The City Rooms. Enjoy!
