Shyam & Asha

“OMG they are amazing!’

Hindu Wedding & Reception | Hampton Court House | Surrey

An incredible day of celebrations for a wonderful couple

Shyam & Asha’s wedding was going to feel a little strange at first, and certainly make me feel old! Asha is my first cousin’s daughter, so seeing her all grown up and getting married was going to be pretty special.

Not only was I there to see them celebrate their occasion, I was chosen to document their day which was an honour. It was also a chance to see lots of family, some of which I haven’t seen for a long time.

Summer in Surrey

The big day had arrived. Shyam & Asha were getting ready in a nearby hotel which gave me the opportunity to see how they were doing and to get some getting ready shots.

Shortly after, I made my way to Hampton Court House. It was the first time I had been to this venue and what a beautiful setting it was. The Hindu Ceremony was being held outside so it was a good job the weather was warm and bright on an early summers morning.

Guests were arriving in numbers and gathered for the start of the jaan arrival (grooms entrance). Shyam was already seated in a classic red Buick which slowly made its way to the front of the house. Dhol players provided the tempo for wild dancing and celebrations from the guests.

Making his way from the house to the outdoor ceremony, Shyam was seated and ready for Asha to make her entrance. It wasn’t long before she made her own journey from the house to the mandap. It was an incredible scene full of emotions, colour and pure happiness.

The religious and civil ceremonies

The Hindu Wedding Ceremony was conducted by Chanda Vyas who I have worked with numerous times. It was a super-fun ceremony packed full of joy, laughter and tears throughout.

After lunch, we took advantage of the beautiful grounds in Hampton Court House, and lovely summer sun by taking couples portraits followed by the vidai. However, we didn’t have long as the focus now turned to the next event – the civil ceremony.

With a short break and time to get changed for the civil, guests took their seats in the main house. Shyam was already there, greeting his guests and anxiously waiting for Asha. There was also an appearance of one other special guest though, Shyam & Asha’s dog, Rolo. She was certainly giving the couple a run for their money for the star of the show and getting plenty of attention.

And she performed amazingly well as she walked down the aisle with the bridesmaids, followed by the beautiful bride, Asha. The good vibes continued during the short ceremony before the couple made their way out through a shower of confetti. The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing and mingling during the drinks reception. We also had another window of time for further couples portraits, but this time with Rolo as well.

A fitting end to an amazing day

Focus now shifted to the evenings reception. The relaxed yet celebratory atmosphere continued during the reception with plenty of good food and drinks, followed by speeches, cake cutting and first dance. You could say the rest of the evening was pretty lively!

With the late summer sun casting a golden glow in the orangery, the dance floor filled up and the dancing continued long into the night.

It truly was an epic day to be a part of. I had a lot of fun documenting all the joy and celebrations, and Shyam & Asha’s big day at Hampton Court House had it in abundance. So much so, the popular wedding blog, Rock My Wedding, featured their wedding on their site and socials, which you can see here.

On that note, here are some frames highlighting their amazing day. Enjoy!
