Civil Wedding & Reception | The Old Library | The Indian Brewery

An insanely entertaining day full of love, colour and incredible vibes.

It’s a lovely feeling when an enquiry lands in my inbox describing how my photographs resonate with them. Binal’s exact words were: “I am very particular about how I like pictures to look, so having looked through your gallery there were so many pictures where I found myself saying….I love this.”

It’s an instant green flag, suggesting that we would be a great match, and boy, did that turn out to be completely true.

Keeping The Nerves in Check

The day itself had arrived, and it was a wedding I was looking forward to for a while. I always get a few nerves before weddings, but this one had a few things in the mix that got me checking my camera bag several times before leaving the house.

The first thing was that Binal & Anne’s wedding was the first one of the season. It’s kinda like the first day back at school after a long break, but once you’re there, the muscle memory kicks in. The second factor was that this was my first same-sex, LGBTQ+ wedding I have documented. However, the nerves soon disappeared once I started getting into my flow. And that all came from the couple themselves.

A Lively Ceremony

Having captured Binal & Anne getting ready separately in their nearby hotel, I knew it was going to be like every other wedding – one full of genuine excitement, joy and emotions. Both were relaxed but in a joyous mood. You could tell they couldn’t wait to get the wedding started.

Guests were already starting to arrive at the wedding venue – The Old Library. With Anne waiting at the front, Binal, accompanied by her two nephews, danced their way down the aisle to the sounds of Old School Hip Hop.

It was so different, and one of the best starts to a wedding I have seen in a long time. It definitely set the tone for what was to come for the rest of their day. The ceremony carried on with the fun, smiles and laughter, with the guests getting involved with every opportunity.

Portraits With An Urban Twist

We didn’t have to venture far when it came to portraits. We were bang in the middle of Birmingham’s creative quarter where every wall, corner and archway had stunning graffiti. Both Binal & Anne have backgrounds in Graphic Design, so I knew they would be up for some creative, yet urban portraits.

Despite the cold and damp weather, they were both in their element as we used the backdrop of the urban arts to create our very own art.

A Reception With a Personal Touch

The Indian Brewery was a place where Binal & Anne went to once for a date, liked it, and booked it for their wedding reception – and it’s easy to see why. The place embodies so much about them – the colour, the artwork, the great vibes and amazing food.

With their guests enjoying the selection of craft beers and drinks, Binal & Anne made their grand entrance amongst loud cheers. With an informal feel to the evening, tables were set out in long lines while fresh pizza was being served hot out of the kitchen. I would highly recommend their butter chicken pizza – so good!

The rest of the evening carried on as it had done for the whole day. There was so much love and joy for Binal & Anne. As an LGBTQ+ Wedding Photographer, it was an incredible occasion to be a part of and to document. Here are some highlights from their day.
