Hindu Wedding & Reception | Blenheim Palace | Oxfordshire

A location fitting for an unbelievable day of celebrations

Every now and then, I get an email that lands in my inbox that makes me wonder – is this enquiry for real? And in this case – it was the location – Blenheim Palace. I mean, I didn’t even know they did weddings at such an iconic place!

But my scepticism soon turned to excitement after my initial conversation with Michael & Nisha. When they explained their plans for their wedding, I knew this was going to be totally epic.

My first taste of the venue and surroundings was during their pre-wedding portrait session, which was also the first time we met. It was lovely hearing more about them as a couple, as well and learning new things about Blenheim Palace. This also gave me a great opportunity to discover locations within the grounds for portraits, which would come in handy for the big day itself.

Building Excitement

I always look forward to every wedding I am booked to document. However, this one felt different. There was an extra bit of excitement for this one, as I knew how incredible the day was looking.

Upon entering the grounds, an early morning fog cast a calm yet eerie atmosphere across the landscape. The suppliers were already bustling about, getting the venue set up for the various parts of the day. One thing was for sure, I would definitely be getting my steps in as the grounds were massive!

Thankfully, I was treated to a short buggy ride with all my equipment to the glass marquee, where the Hindu Wedding was being held. It looked absolutely incredible, with the decor already set up and finishing touches being applied.

With decor shots taken, it was time to head over to see Nisha for getting ready shots. The bridal room was in full swing as I arrived, with Nisha having her make up done and her bridesmaids adding their final touches too. She was in a super relaxed mood, with the excitement building with every passing minute.

Meanwhile, my good friend Nish was documenting Michael and his groomsmen as they got ready on the other side of the courtyard. Again, the mood was of excited energy as they made their way to the terrace garden for the start of the Bharaat arrival.

A Lively Entrance to Set the Tone

With the dhol players providing the energy, Michael and his guests danced their way down towards the marquee, with the palace looking majestic in the background. At the marquee, Nisha’s family were ready and waiting for Michael, and for the milni’s to commence.

Once everyone was seated, it was time for the ceremony to start, and for Michael to be welcomed into the mandap by Nisha’s parents. The focus now turned towards Nisha, as she was welcomed into the marque for the start of the Hindu Wedding.

It was a beautiful ceremony full of colour, laughter and emotions, as the guests were captivated by the traditions and ceremonies that come with Hindu Weddings. And being a fusion wedding, many guests were new to such traditions.

Shortly after the conclusion of the mandap ceremony, guests made their way to the orangery for the wedding breakfast. Shortly after, Michael & Nisha were introduced as husband and wife into the room for the pouring of the champagne tower. I have to admit, I did keep my distance from the table for the fear of the glasses collapsing… but luckily, they all stayed in place!

Tying the Knot

So, with part one of their day complete, the focus now shifted to the civil ceremony. This one would be a super intimated affaire, with only the couples parents in attendance (and of course the photographers, videographers and registrars).

With just a short buggy ride away to the Temple of Health, everyone took their positions for a prompt start. The good vibes from the Hindu Wedding continued as Michael & Nisha exchanged vows, rings and their first kiss.

We had a small window for portraits before the couple had to disappear to get ready for the reception. There is no shortage of incredible backdrops at Blenheim Palace, but the one nearest to the Temple of Health was the secret garden. Featuring a lake, fountain and many lovely walkways, we certainly made the most of the peaceful afternoon and lovely weather for some beautiful portraits.

The Finale

Time was racing and before we knew it, guests were heading to the orangery terrace for the drinks reception. Entertainment was in full flow with a violinist proving the background music, and a magician wowing the guests. It also gave Michael & Nisha the opportunity to mingle with their friends and family. I always love it when couples are able to spend time chatting with their guests, especially when they have travelled from far and wide.

While guests started taking their seats, we had a few moments for more portraits on the terrace, but this time in their evening outfits. Again, there was no need to venture far when Blenheim Palace provided an epic backdrop.

As DJ H from Kudos Music raised the energy levels, the happy couple made their entrance to huge cheers as they cut the cake. The rest of the evening followed the same excitement levels during speeches, first dance and eventually the dance floor opening up. With the sun fully set, the party continued late into the night with the dance floor as packed as when it was when it started.

An Absolute Dream Experience

As a Luxury Wedding Photographer, sometimes you have to pinch yourself when you get to work with couples like Michael & Nisha. From the moment they enquired, all the way through the rest of the process, they truly appreciate the art and craft that goes into creating beautiful images that convey their story.

On top of that, being able to tell their story in an incredible venue like Blenheim Palace was an experience I will never forget.

It goes without saying – I had the best time documenting their wedding. Although it was a pretty jammed-packed day, there was time to slow down and take in the occasion. It was also a wedding with everything you would want – all the emotions, the grandeur and plenty of love.

So if you read this far, thank you! I could have honestly written a whole lot more, but I will let their pictures do the hard work. Enjoy!
